Sit-ups Will Help You Lose Fat From Your Stomach
Unfortunately we cannot lose fat from a targeted area just by exercising it. Abdominal exercises like sit-ups may strengthen abdominal muscles but fat will only be lost through a balanced exercise regime and a balanced, reduced fat diet. Fat may then be lost from all areas of the body, not just the part you exercise.
Walking Is Not A Good Fitness Exercise
For many members of the population, walking is a safe and effective form of exercise. Walking is low impact and accessible to almost everyone. Walking two kilometres will expend similar energy to jogging two kilometres (it will take longer to walk the two kilometres so the duration of exercise will be greater). Providing individuals walk regularly and at a sufficient pace or intensity, gains in fitness will be achieved.
Exercising In Heavy Clothes Will Help You To Lose Weight
Any weight lost during an exercise session will almost definitely be in the form of perspiration (i.e. a loss of water). This loss will be replaced almost immediately after the ingestion of fluids. Wearing heavy clothing may increase core body temperature to a point where the individual may suffer heat stress.
Never Drink While Exercising Because It Will Give You Cramps
This is false as well. Dehydration may result if an individual fails to replace fluids lost via perspiration. Water should be consumed prior to, during and after exercise. It is generally recommended that individuals should drink about eight glasses of water per day. This is increased for active individuals. Another general guideline is that exercising individuals should aim to drink small amounts every fifteen minutes during activity.
I Can Spot Reduce The Fat On The Back Of My Arms
This is also untrue as fat is metabolised throughout the whole body. It is impossible to stimulate fat loss from a specific body part. Spot reduction products like cellulite creams simply make false claims.
Put On A Tracksuit As Soon As You Finish Exercise Or You’ll Catch A Cold
You do not catch colds from being cold or changing temperatures. There is no urgency to put a tracksuit on after exercise. This should be done when the person feels cool.
Sleep Extra Hours Before A Competition To Improve Performance
Excessive bed rest slows metabolism and makes an individual feel sluggish.
It Is Healthy To Have A Cold Shower Immediately After A Hot One
This can be a dangerous practice, as cold showers will lead to constriction of blood vessels and an increase in blood pressure. The shock to the body may lead to the individual losing consciousness and it may create heart complications.
